Built for outside

Amenity spaces are exterior walls with traffic

An outdoor bar front or grill station on a restaurant patio or apartment pool deck is an exterior wall that people lean on, bump with chairs and hose down. It takes rain from the top, splash from the deck and heat from the grill, and it sits on a slab that moves with the seasons. Built like an interior counter and finished like a building wall, it cracks and stains within a few seasons.

We build for those conditions. Bases are usually concrete block with stucco applied directly to the masonry, or framed with cement board and lath where weight is a concern. Countertops and caps overhang and slope so water runs off, grill openings get proper clearances and heat-resistant materials, and the bottoms of walls stay clear of standing water.

On existing amenity areas, we repair cracked walls, rebuild damaged corners and refinish faded surfaces to match the buildings. For restaurant patios, we schedule around service hours. For apartment and condominium amenities, we work during the off season or around pool hours so residents lose as little use as possible. See also our restaurant and apartment pages.

Picking the right base for the space

Concrete block is the most durable base for an outdoor bar or grill station. It does not rot, it takes stucco directly, and it handles the heat around commercial grills. It is heavy, so it needs a slab or footing that can carry it, which matters on elevated amenity decks.

A framed base with cement board is lighter and easier to shape, which helps with curved bars, long runs and decks with weight limits. If the frame is combustible, grills must be installed with the insulated jacket or clearances their manufacturer requires, and we plan the openings around that from the start. Load limits on decks and podiums are confirmed by the owner’s engineer or design team.

For existing features, refinishing is often the simplest option when the base is sound. We check before we quote and tell you if a crack or stain points to a problem a new coat would only cover.

Our process

Building around guests and residents

We schedule around service hours and pool seasons, and around the licensed trades, so gas, plumbing and power rough-ins are in place before a base is closed up.

Plan & lay out

We review the plans, confirm equipment cut-outs and clearances, and mark where licensed trades need to bring utilities.

  • Equipment specs reviewed
  • Slab & drainage checked
  • Written, itemized scope

Build the base

Block is laid or the frame is built and sheathed in cement board, with openings framed for grills, refrigeration and doors.

  • Square, level base
  • Openings framed to spec
  • Work area fenced off

Stucco & finish

Base and finish coats are applied and cured, the bottom edge is detailed to shed water, and the color is matched to the building.

  • Coats cured properly
  • Drip edge at the slab
  • Color & texture matched

Outdoor spaces in Smyrna

Patios, pool decks and gathering spaces

Outdoor dining and resident amenities are a big part of how Smyrna properties compete.

Restaurants around Smyrna Market Village and along the main corridors use patios to add seats, and the area near The Battery Atlanta has raised expectations for outdoor space. Apartment and condominium communities across Smyrna compete on pool decks, grilling stations and clubhouse patios. Georgia’s long outdoor season means these spaces get used hard from spring through fall, so we plan repairs for the shoulder months whenever possible.

Questions & answers

Outdoor amenity questions in Smyrna

What Smyrna restaurant operators and property managers ask about outdoor spaces.

Do new outdoor dining walls or structures in Smyrna need approval?
New structures, gas lines and changes to outdoor seating areas often need permits or review. Check with the City of Smyrna, or Cobb County for unincorporated properties, before building.
Can you work on a Smyrna restaurant patio without closing it?
Often. We schedule around service hours, work in sections and keep the work area separated from guests.
When is the best time to repair apartment pool amenities?
Before or after pool season, when residents are not using the space. We can plan the work with management well ahead.
Can stucco stand up to grill heat?
Yes, when the base and grill opening are built with proper clearances and heat-resistant materials. We follow the grill manufacturer’s requirements.
Do you install the grills and appliances?
No. We build and finish the stucco structure. Appliances, gas and electrical are handled by the appropriate trades.
